The We Speak Up public speaking contest is an exciting competition designed to showcase the talents of young individuals who possess a passion for public speaking. Participants will have the opportunity to deliver speeches or presentations in front of an audience of their peers and a panel of judges. The goal of the contest is to evaluate each participant's unique ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, and to engage and inspire the audience.

Participants will be judged based on a set of criteria, including: confidence and poise, content of speech, delivery and presentation, audience connection, credibility, and time management. The contest will be organized around specific themes, such as persuasive speaking, impromptu speaking, exposition, or storytelling.

At the end of the competition, there will be three winners announced per age category, in the order of second runner-up, first runner-up, and winner. The panel of judges may also choose to award up to two honorable mentions at their discretion. All other contestants will receive a certificate of participation. The judges' decision is final, and no further correspondence will be entered into.

All contestents would be wise to know that emphasis should be placed on sportsmanship, as in making all contestants feel like a winner by merely participating.

Here are some tips on how children may prepare for a public speaking contest:

Choose a topic that interests them: Children need to choose a topic that they are passionate about and can speak confidently about.

Research the topic: Encourage children to research their topic thoroughly and gather information from a variety of sources.

Write and practice the speech: Once they have their information, help them to write and organize their speech, and practice it several times.

Use props or visual aids: If the contest allows props or visual aids, encourage children to use them to support their speech and to make it more engaging.

Practice delivery: Practice speaking in front of a mirror or with a small group of friends or family to help them become more comfortable with public speaking.

Time management: Practice delivering the speech within the time frame given, also, practice pausing and pacing themselves.

Get feedback: Encourage children to get feedback from others on their speech, including the organization, delivery, and content.

Relax: Remind them to stay calm, take deep breaths and be themselves when delivering their speech.

Rehearsals: Encourage them to rehearse their speech several times in front of different audiences and with different sets of feedback to help them become more comfortable and confident with their speech.

Have fun: Remind them that this is an opportunity to have fun and showcase their talents, rather than feeling pressure to win.
